Wolfgang Amadeus Thun Tribute Scholarship
In remembrance of Wolf’s spirit of excellence in the Calligraphic Community

The Wolfgang Amadeus Thun Scholarship is being managed by the Houston Calligraphy Guild, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This scholarship is designed to promote and preserve the high standards of calligraphy, as exemplified by Wolfgang Thun.

Applicants who are members of calligraphic societies in the United States and Australia, Wolf’s two calligraphy “homes”, are eligible. We encourage applicants at all levels and exhibiting high standards of work to apply. The goal of the Scholarship is to promote continued education in lettering and calligraphy and applications will be accepted from September 10, 2021 through November 30, 2021. The winner will be announced early February 2022.

Application Requirements
To apply for this scholarship, you must:

be 18 years of age or older

show proof of membership in a sanctioned United States calligraphy guild/society or the Calligraphers of South East Queensland Inc.

provide a bio and a short statement on how the conference will add to your professional growth

submit up to 2 high resolution images of your calligraphy/lettering as png, jpeg or PDF files, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi

ensure that no applicant name, email, or website reference appears in either the essay questions or in the images for the blind judging

complete the Application Form

Scholarship Payment Terms for Recipient
This is a reimbursement scholarship and the recipient will be responsible for their Conference expenses. The recipient will then submit receipts for up to $1500 in reimbursement for expenses such as airfare, registration and lodging costs. Reimbursement will be made within one week upon receipt of appropriate documentation. If the Scholarship recipient is unable to attend the Conference, they need to contact the Scholarship Chair so that a second-place applicant will then receive the scholarship award with the same criteria for reimbursement.
If donation funds exceed the $1500 award, a second scholarship will be awarded to the second-place applicant. All of the same rules apply to the winner.
