ABOUT USThe Houston Calligraphy Guild was founded in 1979 as a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to teaching calligraphy as an art form. We will celebrate our 45th year in 2024 as a member-run organization with several active founding members. We encourage our members regardless of skill level to participate and offer a helping hand in committees, teaching programs, and community outreach. Whether you are a beginner or a skilled calligrapher, explore our website, learn more about the Guild, and consider joining. Membership is open to all, and we offer individual, family, student and supporting memberships. Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive, Houston, TX 77042. From September through May, our schedule includes an optional early bird class at 9:00 a.m. The official Guild meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. with a short business meeting followed by a main meeting program. During the year, a variety of mini-workshops and clinics occur after the main program. During June, July, and August, the Guild’s summer workshops focus on a single calligraphic script or a variety of related skills. A large calligraphy library is available to members for individual study. We hold a variety of weekend workshops taught by visiting artists and master calligraphers throughout the year. Every two years, there is a weekend retreat featuring a wide choice of classes for members at all skill levels. We are actively involved with the Houston community. Members demonstrate calligraphy and interact with Houston children and families at schools, libraries, museums, the craft center and events across the city. In addition, we support active-duty military and first responders with cards and gifts. |
