The Houston Calligraphy Guild
is dedicated to teaching calligraphy as an art form and encouraging love of the craft. Our non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, was organized in 1979 and is still thriving with several original members as active participants. Whether you are a beginner or a skilled calligrapher, we invite you to attend a meeting during our Guild calendar year which runs from September through May to learn more about our programs and becoming a member. The Guild has a variety of memberships available from individual to family to student.
Meetings are held the second Saturday of each month at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive, Houston, TX 77042. Programs are taught by members, many of whom teach calligraphy outside the guild. From September through May our schedule includes an early bird class before the meeting as well as a meeting program. During the months of June, July and August, the Guild’s summer study focuses on either a single calligraphic script or various related skills. An extensive library of books is available to members for individual study.
Special weekend workshops taught by visiting artists and master calligraphers are held several times per year and provide advanced training. In addition, the Guild holds a biennial weekend retreat featuring a wide choice of classes for all student levels.
We are actively involved with the Houston community in outreach programs. Members demonstrate calligraphy at schools, libraries, museums and events across the city. In addition, we support the local V. A. Hospital with cards.
