We will also learn a simple, almost a mono-line, lettering style that can be used with cards. Lynda is a versatile artist, talented calligrapher and watercolorist from Tulsa. She is always surprising us with her fun creative cards. We are glad she is coming from Tulsa to share her love of pop-ups. Supply fee $5 1B) Story Maps / Kim Lambert Kim is a talented journal artist /calligrapher and member of the Waco Calligraphy Guild. Maps tell stories of places, ideas, or experiences. By pulling together art, color and lettering, you will document favorite memories in a beautiful, and fun layout. Story mapping is often sought out for weddings and journals and Kim will show us how to create them. You do not have to “be good at drawing” to create a beautiful map. You will use skills you already have and we will add details and drama to create lots of visual interest! In this class, you will learn: • Art journaling techniques using watercolor, pen, ink, markers • How to create an emotional connection through color • Simple ways to add details and drama • A quick and easy process for planning and laying out your page • Ways to add lettering/calligraphy to make your words interesting Supply fee $5 (1C) Book Page Versals / Debbie Dutton Based on the article Debbie wrote for Calligraphy Crush Magazine, she’ll show you how she created these versal letters - and how you can create your own. Use the letters to create words on book pages and music pages, paint with gouache and finish with pointed pen or monoline pen. You’ll go home with some finished pieces that are ready to frame. Supply fee $5 SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION II CLASS DESCRIPTIONS (2-5:30pm) (2A) Ribbon Letters / Cindy Haller Create a ‘ribbon’ look to a word with the twists and turns of letter construction and the connections from one letter to another. We will explore other options that offer different looks to this fun way of designing a title display or name. Cindy is a masterful teacher and we are blessed to have her teach this class! Supply fee $2 (2B) Itty Bitty Books / Troy Brooks Troy has been fascinated by small books and tiny writing for some time. In this small world, something meaningful can be created that will fit into the palm of your hand with room to spare. This class will use materials that most calligraphers already have on hand and alphabets that lend themselves to being written small (Italic, Copperplate, Carolingian, Uncial, Foundational, and almost any monoline). We’ll make a tiny leather hinge book with an accordion text block housed in an origami box; a hardback book on a necklace. It can include a prayer, a mantra, or anything meaningful or nothing at all; and more itty-bitty hardback books with eyelets for chains, ribbon enclosures, paper enclosures and more. Supply fee $5 (2C and 3C) Crushing on Canvas /Lynn Ayres and Nettie Wood NOTE: Choose this class option for Saturday afternoon AND Sunday morning classes. Day 1: This will be an active class where we’ll create an art composition on canvas and fabric with layers of paint, stencil, collage, mask, stamp, and gelli plate. Your imagination is the only limit to what you can create. The artwork will dry overnight. Day 2: Using sewing machines and other tools, we’ll transform your canvas and fabric into a journal and portfolio. Scraps will become other items like pockets and folders. Supply fee $12 (FOR 2 DAYS) SUNDAY MORNING SESSION III CLASS DESCRIPTIONS (9am-12:30pm) (3A) Repouseé / Laurie Pearson Laurie has perfected this process and will show us how to make a faux Repouseé name plaque. Traditional Repouseé is a design raised in relief by hammering on the revere side of metal. Laurie’s version uses aluminum foil, foam core and letters forming it into a plaque with your name. Supply fee $4 (3B) Illumitangles® Capitals/ Angie Vangalis Explore Cadel-like capitals using a split-nib marker along with fine lines and gel pens to embellish a breath-taking Capital letter. Participants will learn how to build these decorative Capitals and implement a variety of patterning techniques inspired by Cadels and decorative letters of the 14th and 15th centuries. Supply fee $5 (3C) Crushing on Canvas /Lynn Ayres and Nettie Wood NOTE: Continuation of Session 2C, see Session II for complete 2-day class description. |
